Deer Hollow Ranch and Cabins is only a few miles from two Arkansas State Parks and other interesting places to visit during your stay with us. Lake Fort Smith State Park reopened in 2008 after closing for several years to enlarge the lake and build new facilities. The park includes a swimming pool, marina with boat rentals, hiking trails, and interpretive programs for the children and adults. Devil's Den State Park was constructed by the WPA and CCC in 1933. It also has a swimming pool, small fishing lake, numerous hiking trail and mountain bike and horse trails, and interpretive programs. If you are a history buff there is Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park. This park as been recognized as one of the most intact Civil War sites, the area looks much as it did at the time of the battle on December 7, 1862. The park has a museum, self-guided walking and driving tours, and at various times of the year reenactments of the Civil War battle that took place here years ago. The park also host the annual arts and crafts fair, The Clothesline Fair, every year on Labor Day weekend. Fort Smith National Historic Site is located on the Arkansas River at Fort Smith to our south. It is the location of the famous Judge Issac Parker, also known as the "Hanging Judge". This site has been used in the filming of several western movies, one being John Wayne's "True Grit". Several other historic sites are located in the area close to the national site and make a good all day outing for history enthusiasts.
